In 18 years we have probably worked with every guide in the region — and kept on our team only those we would recommend to our own friends. Each of our 50-plus routes has its own specialist guides, and it is these guides you book through us.
A specialist guide for every route
Castles are led by a history expert, wine routes by a food-and-wine guide, mountain trails by an experienced mountain guide. You get not “whichever guide happens to be free today”, but a specialist in exactly your subject.
We know each of them personally
We have worked with most of our guides for years. New ones we take on only by recommendation — and only after tours we first go on with them ourselves.
A rating after every tour
We collect feedback from every guest. Guides with mediocre ratings drop out of our roster — which is exactly why, in our Google reviews, our guides are so often thanked by name.
Tour languages
Ukrainian and English as standard. Hungarian, Slovak and other languages on request.
On foot, in our car or in yours — you choose the format
The quality of the tour is the same in every format — only the way you travel changes.
Walking tour
Your guide meets you in the town centre or at your hotel. The ideal format for Uzhhorod, Mukachevo and Berehove: a 2–4 hour, unhurried walk.
Our car with a driver
A comfortable car or minivan: a driver-guide, or a driver plus a guide. We collect you from your hotel, the station or the border and accompany you along the entire route.
A guide in your car
Your personal guide travels with you or meets you at each stop: the route, parking and reservations are all thought through for you. Your car, our service.

Why is it better to book a guide through a tour operator rather than directly?
Booking a guide directly from an advert is always a gamble: you don’t know whether the person is real, what standard they work to, or what happens if the guide falls ill on the day. Booking through a tour operator removes those risks: a vetted guide, an official contract and a guaranteed replacement.
Booking on your ownBooking with Pro Karpaty
A polished profile, an advance payment to a card — and the “guide” vanishes
An official tour operator since 2008 (licence №605/2012): a contract and lawful payment.
A private guide falls ill or takes a more lucrative group — and your trip falls through
A guaranteed replacement with an equally qualified guide — the tour goes ahead.
Nice photos and a good self-presentation don’t make for a good tour
We have seen every guide at work on dozens of tours, and we read every guest review.
A business trip or a company payment? A private individual can’t give you an invoice or paperwork
We work officially, with a full set of documents — including for your accounts department.
Guide replacement guarantee: if your guide is unable to lead the tour, we will replace them free of charge with an equally qualified specialist — the programme and the price stay the same.
What travellers say about our guides
Genuine reviews from our guests on Google — word for word, with names
The cost depends on the route, its length and the transport: a walking tour of the town costs less than a full day by car around the castles or into the Carpathians. After a short conversation we send you an exact quote for your request — and fix it before you set off, with no extra charges along the way.
How do I book a guide?
Send a request on this page or call us — that’s how you can book a private tour for any date. Within the working day your manager selects a guide and a route and sends you the programme with the price — once you confirm, the booking is secured.
Can we do the tour in our own car?
Yes. Your personal guide travels with you in your car or meets you at each stop: the route, parking and all reservations are thought through for you. It’s one of the most popular formats among travellers exploring Transcarpathia in their own car.
What languages are the tours conducted in?
Ukrainian as standard. English, Hungarian, Slovak and other languages by prior request: we’ll find a guide with the language you need for your dates.
Which routes across Transcarpathia can I book with a private guide?
We have more than 50 signature routes across the whole of Transcarpathia: castles and palaces, thermal springs, cheese dairies and wine cellars, Kolochava, Solotvyno, the Valley of Daffodils in the flowering season. We’ll build a programme around your interests — for a single day or several.
Do you run private tours of Uzhhorod?
Yes — it’s our home route: the old town and Korzo, Uzhhorod Castle, the embankment with the longest lime-tree alley in Europe and the town’s coffee culture. On foot in 2–4 hours — or with a car, to add Nevytske Castle and the thermal baths nearby. In spring there’s a story of its own — the blossoming of the cherry trees.
Do you run private tours of Mukachevo?
Yes. The classic route is Palanok Castle, the town hall and the old centre, and, if you wish, the monastery on Chernecha Hora. Mukachevo is easy to combine with Uzhhorod, the castles of Transcarpathia or the wineries in a single day.
Can I travel with a private guide into the Carpathians or Europe?
Yes. In the Carpathians the most popular are Synevyr, the Shypit waterfall, the meadows of Borzhava and, in season, an ascent of Hoverla; in Europe, one- and two-day trips to Košice, Budapest, Vienna or Kraków. The guide and the car stay the same throughout the journey — one organiser for the entire route.
How far in advance should I book a guide?
The earlier you book, the wider the choice of guides for your request. In high season we recommend booking 3–7 days ahead, but we can often arrange a guide even a day before the tour.
What happens if the guide falls ill?
The tour goes ahead: we replace the guide free of charge with an equally qualified specialist, and the programme and the price stay the same. This is the main advantage of booking through a tour operator rather than directly from a private individual.
Are private tours suitable for children or older travellers?
Yes. We adjust the pace, the length and the route to suit your group: shorter walks, more stops, child-friendly touches in the guide’s commentary. Tell us who’s coming, and we’ll take it into account in the programme.
How does a private tour differ from a group tour?
On a private tour the guide works only for you: a start time that suits you, your pace, your interests and no strangers in the group. A group tour is cheaper, but it follows a fixed schedule and a shared programme.
Private tours of Transcarpathia: a personal guide for your request
A private tour is a format in which the guide works only for you: you choose the date and the start time, the pace of the walk and the focus — more history, more photo stops or more local food. The tour operator Pro Karpaty (Uzhhorod) has been arranging personal tours since 2008: over that time we have built up more than 50 signature routes across Uzhhorod, Mukachevo, the whole of Transcarpathia, the Carpathians and neighbouring Europe — and a team of the region’s finest guides for each of them.
Booking a guide without the risk
Booking a guide through a tour operator means a vetted specialist, an official contract and a guarantee that the tour goes ahead: if the guide falls ill, we replace them free of charge with an equally qualified one. We fix the price before you set off, so there are no extra charges along the way. For companies and guests on business trips we provide a full set of documents — including for your accounts department.
A private guide on foot, in our car or in yours
You choose the format: a walking tour of Uzhhorod or Mukachevo, a trip in our comfortable car with a driver — or a personal guide across Transcarpathia in your own car, who will plan the route, the parking and the reservations. We run our tours in Ukrainian; in English and other languages by prior request.
From Uzhhorod to Vienna
The most popular destinations are the old town and castle of Uzhhorod, Mukachevo with Palanok, the castles and wineries of Transcarpathia, and Synevyr and Shypit in the Carpathians. And when you want more, we set off with the same guide and car to Košice, Budapest, Vienna or Kraków: one organiser for the whole journey. If you’re looking not just for a tour but for a complete programme with a hotel, transfers and events, take a look at our VIP holidays in the Carpathians and Transcarpathia. Send us a request — and your personal manager will match you with a guide and a route for your request.
