Bus tours to Romania from Uzhhorod: how it works
Tours to Romania from Zakarpattia are 1-4 day itineraries that begin early in the morning in Uzhhorod and end there too. Romania is the only one of our European destinations where the border runs not to the west but to the south of the region: on the routes through Solotvyno the coach crosses it a little over an hour from Mukachevo. That is why bus tours to Romania from Zakarpattia begin with the programme on day one, rather than with the drive to the border.
Where the bus tours to Romania from Uzhhorod and Mukachevo go. Maramureș - two days, the Merry Cemetery in Săpânța, Sighet and the wooden churches of Bârsana and Budești, from UAH 6,500. Oradea with the Băile Felix baths - two days, the Art Nouveau centre and the hot pools, from UAH 6,800. The Transylvanian triangle - three days, the Turda salt mine, Cluj and the Alba Iulia citadel, from UAH 11,700. The grand circle of Transylvania - four days, Sighișoara, Brașov, Bran Castle and Peleș Castle in Sinaia, from UAH 17,000.
The most affordable European destination at current prices. Romania opens our range on price: multi-day tours start from UAH 6,500 per person against UAH 7,200-10,200 for the other countries. The reason is simple - a short leg and lower costs on the ground, not a cut-down programme: that UAH 6,500 still includes transport, a group leader, a hotel with breakfast and €30,000 insurance.
Tours to Romania of 2, 3 and 4 days. The two-day format is one full day on site plus an overnight stay: Maramureș or Oradea. The three-day Transylvanian triangle gives two nights in the same hotel, so nothing needs repacking. The four-day grand circle of Transylvania is the longest route in the whole European range: on it you see medieval Sighișoara, Brașov, Bran Castle and the royal palace of Peleș. That much ground simply cannot be covered on a two-day tour.
If you only have one day. One-day tours to Romania leave Uzhhorod and return the same evening: the Salina Turda salt mine park with its underground lake and Ferris wheel, the salt lakes of Solotvyno across the river, and the scenic 'Vivid Romania' route with waterfalls and mountain switchbacks. Prices start from UAH 3,500 per person.
No overnight drives. Every night is spent in a 3-4* hotel with breakfast, and transfers happen during the day. You do not spend a night sitting in a coach seat, and you do not lose the first day catching up on sleep. On the four-day route this is fundamental: it covers a lot of ground, and it is the hotel nights that make it a holiday rather than an endurance test.
Two pick-up points. The main one is Uzhhorod, Koriatovych Square, followed by a pick-up in Mukachevo at no extra transfer charge. That makes tours to Romania from Uzhhorod and Mukachevo convenient for travellers in the eastern part of Zakarpattia too. The manager confirms the exact pick-up time along with the departure date.
What the tour price includes. Transport along the whole route, a Pro Karpaty group leader, a hotel with breakfast and €30,000 medical insurance. Entrance fees and optional extras - Salina Turda, Bran Castle, Peleș Castle, the thermal complexes - are paid separately: an estimated budget is given on each tour page so the full sum can be worked out in advance. A valid biometric foreign passport is required to cross the border.
Booking and cancellation. You send an enquiry from the tour page, the manager confirms the date, and the manager tells you the prepayment; the balance is due before departure. Cancellation terms follow the Booking Rules: more than 2 days before the start, 10% of the price is retained; less than 2 days, 50%. Pro Karpaty has been organising tours since 2008 under tour operator licence AE No. 185601 of 06.12.2012.
