Tour programme
- Departure from Uzhhorod at 06:30 and from Mukachevo at 07:20, then the border and the longest drive of the whole route - across northern Romania into the heart of Transylvania.
- Lunch on the way at your own expense, with stops every two or three hours.
- Towards evening we enter Sighișoara - an inhabited medieval citadel on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
- This is not a museum set: people still live inside the fortress walls, shops and cafés are open, and the lanes are paved with the same stone as five hundred years ago.
- The group leader guides the walk: the Clock Tower with its moving figures, the towers of the Saxon guilds, and the covered Scholars' Stairs leading up to the church on the hill.
- The exhibitions inside the towers have their own tickets - optional and paid separately.
- Dinner is in town at your own expense; the terraces in the citadel stay open late.
- Overnight in a 3* hotel with breakfast in or near Sighișoara.
- After breakfast we drive to Brașov, the principal town of Saxon Transylvania.
- The walk starts in Piața Sfatului: the town hall in the middle, coloured facades all around, and behind them the Black Church, the largest Gothic church in the region, plus the narrowest street in town, where two people can only pass sideways.
- Then there is time for lunch at your own expense and coffee on the square.
- In the afternoon we head to Bran, less than an hour away through the foothills.
- Bran Castle stands on a crag above the road and is known worldwide as Dracula's castle, although the story of its actual owners is more interesting than the legend: the group leader sets out what is fact and what is literary invention.
- Entry to the castle is optional and paid separately; the ticket queue is noticeable in season, so the time allowed for the site includes a margin.
- The souvenir market below the castle is a part of the programme in its own right.
- Back to Brașov and overnight in a 3* hotel with breakfast.
- An early breakfast and departure for Sinaia, a mountain resort in the Southern Carpathians.
- The main sight is Peleș, the summer residence of the Romanian kings: a Neo-Renaissance palace with wooden interiors, stained glass, an armoury and a theatre hall, set in a terraced park with fountains.
- It is one of the best-preserved royal houses in Europe, and the facade with the park is worth the stop even without going inside.
- The palace sets its own admission times and the order of guided groups, so the leader arranges the slot on site; the entrance ticket is optional and paid separately, and photography inside carries an extra charge.
- Nearby stands Sinaia Monastery, which gave the resort its name.
- Lunch in Sinaia at your own expense.
- After lunch we head north: the drive to Cluj takes most of the day, with technical stops along the way.
- Check-in at a 3* hotel in Cluj in the evening; dinner in town at your own expense.
- The last day begins with breakfast and check-out, after which the group has a few hours in Cluj-Napoca.
- The leader takes you into the centre: Unirii Square with St Michael's Church, the equestrian monument to Matthias Corvinus, shops with Transylvanian wine and ceramics, and the market for things to take home.
- It is a compact walk with no transfers, designed so that the final day is not one long drive.
- Around midday we set off for the border along the same route across northern Romania.
- On the way there is a lunch stop at your own expense and short technical breaks; the route runs with a relief driver, so the mandatory rest periods are observed without holding up the group.
- The border crossing is the least predictable part of the day; the group leader handles the formalities.
- The group reaches Mukachevo first and Uzhhorod in the evening, allowing for queues at the crossing.

Your place in the group is secured only after the manager confirms it. The prepayment depends on the product and we tell you the amount before we confirm your booking. After that we send you the itinerary, the departure time and the meeting point.
Cancellation by you.
Cancellation:
- more than 2 calendar days before the tour starts - we retain 10 % of the price;
- less than 2 calendar days - 50 %;
- no-show without notice - 100 %.

If we cancel the tour.
We offer another date, another route or an equivalent replacement - or we refund the amount you paid.
Participation terms.
Children under 14 travel only when accompanied by an adult. The number of places is limited by the size of the group.
Changes to the itinerary.
The organiser may make minor changes to the itinerary because of road, weather, technical or other circumstances.
Frequently asked questions
Travelling abroad requires a foreign passport - biometric, or with a valid visa. A domestic passport or a driving licence is not accepted at the border. Children must have their own foreign passports. Queues at the border are possible and travel time depends on them, so the schedule is approximate.
Season: April to October. The departure date is on request: we set it around group formation, which is why specific days are not published on this page. Send an enquiry and the manager will name the nearest possible dates.
The estimated ticket budget is about UAH 2,200 (to be confirmed). Entrance fees, optional extras, lunches and dinners are not included in the tour price and are paid separately on site - this keeps the price fair for those who skip some of the sights.
