Frequently Asked Questions

Two or three days. The two-day tours are Kraków with Wieliczka, Zakopane with the Chochołów baths and Kraków at Christmas: one full day on site plus an overnight stay. The three-day one is Kraków with the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial, which has two nights. The overnight stay is always a 3-4* hotel with breakfast, and that cost is already included in the tour price.

Travelling abroad requires a biometric foreign passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the return date. A child must have their own foreign passport. A domestic passport or ID card is not sufficient to cross the border.

About 8 hours, including the border. Poland is the only one of our European destinations where the drive from Lviv comes out at roughly the same - about 7 hours 30 minutes - and from Kyiv about 15 hours 30 minutes. The point of departing from Uzhhorod here is not the distance: you do not spend a separate day travelling to Lviv and back, and the trip begins and ends at home if you live in Zakarpattia.

The scheduled coach starts from Uzhhorod, Koriatovych Square: the itineraries head north through the Uzhhorod border crossing. A transfer from Mukachevo is available as a separate paid option arranged in advance - mention it when booking and the manager will quote the price and time.

Departure from Uzhhorod is in the morning; the manager confirms the exact time along with the date. Early - so as to cross the border while traffic is lighter and reach Kraków with time to spare for the city that same evening. Travel time depends on the queue at the crossing, so the tour schedule is approximate.

No. Departure from Uzhhorod is in the morning, transfers happen during the day, and the nights are spent in a hotel with breakfast. This is the main difference between these tours and cheaper coach programmes to Kraków: you do not spend a night sitting in a seat, and you do not lose the first day catching up on sleep.

Kraków with Wieliczka is the most frequent departure in our whole European range: in season the dates usually fall every two to three weeks, all year round. That makes it the easiest direction on which to pick a specific weekend. Current dates are in the "Upcoming departures" table above.

The memorial is visited as part of the three-day route together with Kraków and Wieliczka. Both parts of the complex - Auschwitz I and Birkenau - are seen with a licensed museum educator; that is the museum's own requirement, not an option of ours. The presentation is restrained, with no entertainment element. We do not recommend the tour for primary-school children.

We confirm the departure in advance. If a departure does not go ahead, we offer the nearest date or refund the deposit in full. On the Kraków + Wieliczka route this happens less often than on others: there are more dates in the schedule, so the nearest alternative is closer too.

Multi-day tours start from UAH 7,600 per person. That already includes transport along the whole route, a Pro Karpaty group leader, a 3-4* hotel with breakfast and €30,000 medical insurance. Entrance fees, optional extras and meals are paid separately - an estimated budget is given on each tour page so the full sum can be worked out in advance. The one-day tour to Poland to Morskie Oko costs from UAH 3,900.

Kraków works all year round: the city is equally good in spring, summer and autumn, and from late November until Christmas the market runs on the Main Square. Zakopane with the Chochołów baths is a winter format, from December to March: hot open-air pools make the most sense in a frost. The route of remembrance with Auschwitz runs all year, and is quietest outside the tourist peak.

Bus tours to Poland from Uzhhorod: how it works

Tours to Poland from Zakarpattia are 1-3 day itineraries that begin early in the morning in Uzhhorod and end there too. Kraków is about 8 hours away including the border. Poland is the only destination of ours where the drive from Lviv comes out at roughly the same, and we do not hide it: the point of bus tours to Poland from Uzhhorod is not the distance but the fact that people living in Zakarpattia need no separate day to travel to Lviv and back.

Where the bus tours to Poland from Uzhhorod go. Kraków for two days with Wieliczka - the Old Town, Wawel, the Kazimierz quarter and the UNESCO-listed salt mine, from UAH 8,300. Zakopane and the Chochołów baths - Krupówki, the Gubałówka funicular and hot pools in the mountains, from UAH 7,600. Kraków and Auschwitz-Birkenau - a three-day route of remembrance, from UAH 12,500. Kraków at Christmas - the market on the Main Square and the evening lights, from UAH 8,700.

The most frequent departures in our European range. Kraków with Wieliczka has the densest calendar of all our European routes: in season the dates usually fall every two to three weeks, all year round. The practical upshot is simple: you rarely have to plan your leave around this tour, because there is almost always a date for the weekend you want. The current list of dates is in the schedule on the tour page.

Kraków in two days: what you get through. The first day is the drive and the Old Town: the Main Square with the Cloth Hall, St Mary's Basilica, Wawel Hill above the Vistula and the Jewish quarter of Kazimierz. The second is the Wieliczka salt mine, an underground town more than a hundred metres down with chapels carved into salt. Both are on the UNESCO list, and seeing them in a single day without an overnight stay is physically impossible - which is exactly why this route runs over two days.

If you only have one day. The one-day tour to Poland from Uzhhorod goes to Morskie Oko, the largest lake in the Tatras inside the Tatra National Park, returning the same evening. The price is from UAH 3,900 per person. It is the only one-day Polish route: Kraków cannot be done in a day from Zakarpattia, and we do not pretend otherwise.

No overnight drives. Every night is spent in a 3-4* hotel with breakfast, and transfers happen during the day. This is the main difference from cheaper coach programmes to Kraków, where the night is spent in a seat and the first day of the tour goes on catching up on sleep. You arrive in the city in a fit state to look at it.

Departure from Uzhhorod, a transfer from Mukachevo by arrangement. The scheduled coach on the Polish tours departs from Uzhhorod, Koriatovych Square: the itineraries head north through the Uzhhorod border crossing. A transfer from Mukachevo is available as a separate paid option arranged in advance. The manager confirms the exact pick-up time along with the departure date.

What the tour price includes. Transport along the whole route, a Pro Karpaty group leader, a hotel with breakfast and €30,000 medical insurance. Entrance fees and optional extras - Wieliczka, Wawel, the funicular in Zakopane, the Chochołów baths, the museum educator at Auschwitz - are paid separately: an estimated budget is given on each tour page so the full sum can be worked out in advance. A valid biometric foreign passport is required to cross the border.

Booking and cancellation. You send an enquiry from the tour page, the manager confirms the date, and the manager tells you the prepayment; the balance is due before departure. Cancellation terms follow the Booking Rules: more than 2 days before the start, 10% of the price is retained; less than 2 days, 50%. Pro Karpaty has been organising tours since 2008 under tour operator licence AE No. 185601 of 06.12.2012.
