Tour programme
Departure from Uzhhorod at 06:30.
The road to Kraków runs through Slovakia - about 400 kilometres, with technical stops for coffee and a rest.
The coach reaches the city at around 14:00, and the group covers the core of Kraków the same day.
The Main Square with the Cloth Hall and the town hall tower, St Mary's Basilica with the wooden altarpiece by Veit Stoss, Grodzka Street up to Wawel Hill: we see the royal castle and the cathedral from the outside, from the Vistula side, where the classic view of the Polish kings' residence opens up.
The group leader explains why Kraków kept its medieval street grid when other capitals lost theirs, and how the city lived through belonging to three different states.
We also see the Barbican and St Florian's Gate - what remains of the city walls, and where the royal road to Wawel once began.
Towards the evening we move into Kazimierz - the former Jewish town, now a quarter of workshops, bookshops and small kitchens where dinner costs noticeably less than on the Main Square.
Check-in at a 3* hotel and overnight stay.
After breakfast we drive to Wieliczka, 15 kilometres from Kraków.
The salt mine has been working since the thirteenth century and is on the UNESCO list.
The visitor route goes down to about 135 metres: salt chambers, underground lakes, the timber supports of the old galleries and chapels carved by the miners straight into the rock.
The largest of them, St Kinga's Chapel, is made entirely of salt - chandeliers and wall reliefs included.
It stays at about fourteen degrees underground all year, so a light jacket is worth bringing.
The entrance ticket is optional and paid separately; admission runs in timed sessions, so the leader arranges the group's slot in advance.
After coming back up there is time for lunch in Wieliczka or a short return to the centre of Kraków - the group leader announces this in the morning so everyone can plan.
Departure for home at 15:00, again across the Slovak border with two stops for coffee and a rest.
The group is back in Uzhhorod at around 22:00; for anyone continuing to Mukachevo, the onward transfer is a separate paid option.

Frequently asked questions
Travelling abroad requires a foreign passport - biometric, or with a valid visa. A domestic passport or a driving licence is not accepted at the border. Children must have their own foreign passports. Queues at the border are possible and travel time depends on them, so the schedule is approximate.
Season: all year round. The departure date is on request: we set it around group formation, which is why specific days are not published on this page. Send an enquiry and the manager will name the nearest possible dates.
The estimated ticket budget is about UAH 2,000 (to be confirmed). Entrance fees, optional extras, lunches and dinners are not included in the tour price and are paid separately on site - this keeps the price fair for those who skip some of the sights.
