Frequently asked questions

Yes - every tour on this page starts in Uzhhorod, a city on Ukraine's western border with Hungary and Slovakia. The exact meeting point and departure time are confirmed by your manager before departure, by phone or Viber, because both depend on the route and the group. Arriving by train or bus? Say so when you book and we will tell you which arrival works.

Between two and eight days. The shortest is «Tour to Bukovel + unique places of the Carpathians», 2 days/1 night. Then come the 3 days/2 nights routes - «A Hutsul wedding in Prykarpattia» and «A ski tour + castles, tubs and wine» - and 4 days/3 nights for «Floral Wonder - the Marmarosy». The longest are the New Year tour (5 days/4 nights) and the Recuperation Tour (8 days/7 nights).

Between 2 740 and 26 500 UAH - every price on this page is per person. The most affordable route is «A Hutsul wedding in Prykarpattia» at 2 740 UAH for 3 days/2 nights. The ski tour is 3 399 UAH, the Marmarosy hiking tour 4 200 UAH, Bukovel 4 950 UAH. The New Year tour with a crossing into Europe is 12 450 UAH, and the eight-day Recuperation Tour is 26 500 UAH.

You sleep on the route - all six tours include overnight stays. The number of nights follows the programme: one night at Bukovel, two on the Hutsul wedding and the ski tour, three on the Marmarosy hike, four on the New Year tour, seven on the Recuperation Tour. Where exactly you stay each night is set out in that tour's own programme.

Yes, two winter routes. «A ski tour + castles, tubs and wine» runs 3 days/2 nights at 3 399 UAH per person and mixes slopes with castles and hot tubs. «New Year Tour: Transcarpathia + Europe - 2027!» runs 5 days/4 nights at 12 450 UAH and crosses the border into Europe. New Year dates are booked early, so ask about them well ahead.

One option - «Tour to Bukovel + unique places of the Carpathians», 2 days/1 night, 4 950 UAH per person. It is the shortest tour on this page and the simplest way to see the mountains without spending your holiday allowance. If two days feel tight, the next step up is 3 days/2 nights: «A Hutsul wedding in Prykarpattia» at 2 740 UAH.

Online, on the page of the tour you want - each one has its own booking form. Leave your name and phone number and a manager will get in touch to confirm the date, the number of places and the remaining details. You can also do it the other way round: call first, talk the route through, then send the request. Both routes reach the same person.

Yes. «A Hutsul wedding in Prykarpattia» (2 740 UAH, 3 days/2 nights) is marked on this page as a group tour assembled from individual travellers, so one person joins without any trouble. The other routes carry no such marking on the page, so ask your manager about the group format - on some dates those run as mixed groups too.

Tours in the Carpathians - where bold dreams come true

Tours to the Carpathians from Uzhhorod are multi-day routes into the mountains, up to the high meadows and out to the waterfalls - from a backpacking trek to a slow wellness programme built around mineral water. Prices, departure dates and booking all sit on this page: every card shows the price per person and how many days and nights the route runs, while the day-by-day programme and the booking form live on the tour's own page. The catalogue updates as new dates open, so the current list of routes is always there rather than in this text.

Why start here. Uzhhorod sits in Ukraine's far west, on the border with Hungary and Slovakia, a few hours' drive from the Carpathian ridges. Starting from the city rather than from Kyiv or Lviv means the first day is not eaten by transfer: the group reaches the mountains in daylight and the programme begins the same day. On a 2 days/1 night route that is the whole difference between seeing a place and driving past it. The second reason is simpler: Zakarpattia and Prykarpattia lie on opposite sides of the ridge, and from Uzhhorod it is genuinely possible to build a three-day tour with mountains, castles and thermal water in it - with no overnight coach legs across half the country.

Which tour to choose. Several quite different formats sit side by side in the catalogue, and they are worth telling apart. A hiking tour is real trekking across the high meadows with ascent: it suits people ready to walk for several hours a day. A sightseeing tour means road transfers and short walks to a lake, a waterfall or a viewpoint; it suits anyone, families with children included. A ski tour puts you at a base near the slope and lets you ride at your own pace, with equipment available for hire at the resort. Folk and holiday tours are built around Hutsul tradition, music and the table, and around the New Year and Christmas programmes. A wellness tour is the calmest and longest format: mineral water, an unhurried schedule, no early starts. If you are torn between two, write to a manager - five minutes usually settles it, and usually for the better.

Difficulty and fitness. Sightseeing, ski and wellness routes need no particular fitness - comfortable shoes are enough. Hiking routes ask for more: ascent, several hours of walking a day, and weather that changes far faster on the ridge than in the valley. The level of effort is described in each tour's programme; if it is not obvious, ask a manager before booking rather than on the road. Children under 14 travel only when accompanied by an adult.

When to come. Spring is about water: meltwater fills the rivers and the waterfalls peak, and closer to May the high meadows open. Summer is the most comfortable season for trekking - long days, dry paths, nights spent in the mountains. Autumn brings the beech forest into colour and the fewest people on the trails. Winter means slopes, hot tubs in the frost and holiday programmes; winter dates fill first, New Year above all. Snow conditions and the exact weeks of flowering depend on the weather of a given year, so it is worth checking them with a manager before you book.

Carpathians or Zakarpattia. The difference is less geographical than a matter of content. Carpathian routes are about the mountains: altitude, trails, slopes, high meadows. Tours around Zakarpattia are about castles, thermal water, wine and towns, with mountains as one part of the programme rather than its spine. If you want to walk, come here; if you want to look and taste, go there. Some routes deliberately combine both sides of the ridge, and that is the simplest way to see the region for the first time.

What to bring. Into the mountains, a warm layer and a windproof jacket even when Uzhhorod is at +25: the drop in temperature with altitude is noticeable and the ridge is almost always windy. Shoes with a proper sole for any route with trails. A swimsuit and a towel if the programme includes the hot tubs or thermal pools - they are not handed out on site. For winter tours, a hat and gloves; skis and boots are hired at the resort, so there is no need to bring your own.

What a three-day tour looks like. Day one: an early departure from Uzhhorod, the drive with stops and check-in up in the mountains - the programme starts that day, not the next. Day two is the main one: the route, the ascent or the skiing, depending on the format, with a return to the same base. Day three: a short morning programme and the drive back to Uzhhorod in the evening. This is a general frame rather than the schedule of any particular tour - the exact day-by-day plan is always on the route's own page.

Why book with us. Pro Karpaty is a tour operator based in Uzhhorod, working since 2008 (tour operator licence AE No. 185601 of 06.12.2012). Zakarpattia is not a line in our catalogue - it is where we live, which is why we know when the Marmarosy meadows actually flower, when there is real snow on the slopes, and when the thermal water is the better idea. A booking is confirmed by a deposit; the manager tells you the amount before you pay, and cancellation terms follow our Booking Rules.
