The tourist season lasts all year round in Transcarpathia. On the whole, absolutely every excursion route and tour starts either from the regional centre…
Read more: How to get to Mukachevo? No. The coach picks the group up along the way: you board in Mukachevo, and in the evening it drops you at the same spot. There is no surcharge for boarding in Mukachevo - you pay the same as people who board in Uzhhorod on Koriatovycha Square. Just tell the manager when you book that Mukachevo boarding suits you.
The boarding point is listed on each excursion's own page. The manager confirms the most convenient point and the exact departure time in your booking confirmation - both depend on the route. Please be there ten minutes before the agreed time: the coach runs to a schedule and continues along its route.
Twenty-four routes: 10 to Europe, 14 around Zakarpattia and 5 into the Carpathians - some routes count in two regions at once. They run from 8 to 20 hours and cost 800 to 4,700 UAH. The shortest and cheapest start right here in town: the Eco-Tour with the Mukachevo Manufactory (800 UAH, 8 hours) and Castles of Zakarpattia with Palanok Castle (950 UAH, 8 hours).
Ten day excursions - Hungary and Romania: Debrecen, Eger, Budapest, Miskolc, the Hajduszoboszlo spa resort, Nyiregyhaza, Maramures with the Merry Cemetery, and the Salina Turda salt mine (4,700 UAH, 20 hours). You need an international passport, and some programmes specify a biometric one, or a Schengen visa in an ordinary passport. Slovakia and Poland leave from Uzhhorod only; for Austria, joining in Mukachevo can be arranged.
The price covers excursion services, the work of the guide and transport - a comfortable coach. Entrance tickets, meals and personal spending are paid separately. So you buy admission to castles, thermal pools and museums on site, while the drive, the guide and the escort are already inside the figure shown on the excursion card.
Leave a request in the form on this page or call us - and say straight away that boarding in Mukachevo suits you. A booking becomes valid once you pay a deposit - the manager tells you the amount before the booking is confirmed - and your place in the group is held only after the manager confirms it. If your plans change, contact the manager - your booking stays in their hands.
Yes. Children under 14 travel accompanied by an adult, and children under 12 have their own price, calculated from the adult fare. With small children it is easier to start with the eight-hour routes: the Eco-Tour with the manufactory, or the castles with Palanok. Limpopo Zoo and the Oscar Dolphinarium run 14 hours and cost 2,000 UAH.
It is not cancelled - excursions run in any weather. Bring comfortable shoes, clothing to suit the forecast, and water. For mountain routes - Lake Synevyr, the Borzhava highlands, the Dovbush Rocks - add warm clothes and a spare raincoat: the mountains are cooler and windier than Mukachevo, even in July.
Excursions from Mukachevo are, above all, about where you board. The town sits on the Kyiv - Chop motorway, the coach passes through on its way, and you do not need to travel to Uzhhorod in advance to join a group. You get on here and step off at the same spot in the evening. There is no surcharge for it: the price is the same as for people boarding in Uzhhorod on Koriatovych Square. This page lists 24 routes - 10 to Europe, 9 around Zakarpattia and 5 into the Carpathians - priced from 800 to 4,700 UAH and lasting from 8 to 20 hours.
Roughly speaking the catalogue splits into three groups, and it is better to choose by the hours you are willing to spend on the road than by the price. The easiest day is eight to ten hours. The Eco-Tour: Taste and Beauty, with coffee tasting at the Mukachevo Manufactory, costs 800 UAH and runs 8 hours; Castles of Zakarpattia and Mukachevo is 950 UAH, also 8 hours. The Opryshky Kolyba evening show in the Khust area takes the same time (1,250 UAH). The thermal routes sit close by: SPA in Berehove is 950 UAH and 9 hours, Kosyno is 950 UAH and 10 hours, and the Zakarpattia spa resorts with the Arpad Line bunker are 1,000 UAH for 10 hours. This is the format families with children handle comfortably and come back from without being worn out.
The middle band runs eleven to fourteen hours, and the load is already noticeable. Forgotten Castles of Zakarpattia, with Khust Castle and the Kankiv monastery, is 1,100 UAH and 11 hours. Khust with its thermal pools, deer farm and the cheese dairy in Iza is 1,100 UAH and 12 hours. Lake Synevyr with the Shypit waterfall and the bear sanctuary is 1,200 UAH and 14 hours, the same as Kolochava with its Old Village museum and narrow-gauge railway. The Dovbush Rocks and Tustan Fortress cost 1,900 UAH and take 14 hours: the priciest and the most walking-heavy day on the domestic side of this list. Two more stand apart - Vynohradiv with the Perenyi Palace and a buffalo farm (1,100 UAH, 10 hours) and the Limpopo Zoo with the Oscar dolphinarium (2,000 UAH, 14 hours), which is mostly taken by families with children.
The European direction means the longest days. With Mukachevo boarding it covers Hungary and Romania: Nyiregyhaza with the Aquarius water park and the zoo (2,500 UAH, 14 hours), the Hajduszoboszlo spa resort with thirteen pools (2,500 UAH, 16 hours), Debrecen with the Deri Museum (3,300 UAH, 16 hours), Maramures with the Merry Cemetery and Baia Mare (3,500 UAH, 16 hours), Eger with its castle and wine tasting (3,800 UAH, 18 hours), Miskolc with the cave baths and St Istvan Cave (3,900 UAH, 18 hours), a one-day Budapest (4,450 UAH, 18 hours), the Christmas market on Vorosmarty Square (4,500 UAH, 18 hours), and the Salina Turda salt mine with Cluj-Napoca - 4,700 UAH and 20 hours, the longest departure on the page. Romania with the salt lakes of Solotvyno is also here, quoted on request. Two things to know in advance: departures are early and returns are late, and you need an international passport, while some programmes specify a biometric passport or a Schengen visa in an ordinary one. Departures to Slovakia and Poland run from Uzhhorod only. For Austria, joining in Mukachevo can be arranged - mention it when you book.
As for the town itself, Palanok Castle is an 11th-century fortress on a volcanic hill with the whole Latorica valley in view; it is part of the Castles of Zakarpattia and Mukachevo route, together with Serednie Castle and Saint Miklos. The Mukachevo Manufactory belongs to the Eco-Tour programme. The historic centre - the town hall, St Martin's Cathedral, the cafés and the miniature sculptures - is easy to walk on your own between departures, and fifteen minutes away stands the Schonborn Palace in Chynadiiovo: 365 windows, 52 rooms and 12 towers, one for every day, week and month of the year.
Visitors who come to the region and look for excursions in Mukachevo as a programme of its own usually mean Palanok and the old town. If you want your own pace, your own date and nobody else in the group, that is a private excursion with a personal guide, with the route and timing built around your party.
The practical side is identical on every route. The boarding point is listed on the excursion page; the manager confirms the handiest one and the exact departure time in your booking confirmation, since both depend on the route, which is why we do not publish times in advance. Be there ten minutes early - the coach runs to schedule. The price covers the excursion service, the guide and transport; entrance tickets, meals and personal spending are paid separately, so castles, museums and thermal pools are bought on the spot. A booking holds once the 50% deposit is paid, and the manager confirms your place. Groups of 7 or more get 10% off. Children under 14 travel with an adult, and children under 12 have their own price, so give their ages when you book.
Pro Karpaty is a licensed tour operator from Uzhhorod: licence AE No. 185601 of 06.12.2012, 18 years of work, 400+ vetted partners, more than a thousand travellers a month, and a Google rating of 4.9 across 650+ reviews. The nearest dates are shown in the departure schedule on this page. If no date suits you, or you are torn between two routes, leave a request saying how many of you there are and how much time you have - a manager will suggest the format and confirm your Mukachevo pickup.
