Frequently asked questions

Seven routes: Budapest, the Christmas market in Budapest, Eger with its thermal baths and famous wine, the Hajduszoboszlo spa resort, Debrecen, the cave city of Miskolc and Nyiregyhaza. All are group coach-and-walking excursions departing from Uzhhorod and returning the same day. Joining in Mukachevo is possible by arrangement.

The one-day excursion to Budapest lasts about 18 hours: departure early in the morning from Koriatovycha Square in Uzhhorod and return late the same evening. Eger and Miskolc take the same time, the shortest Hungarian trip is Nyiregyhaza at 14 hours, and Hajduszoboszlo and Debrecen take 16. The manager confirms the meeting time.

The national currency is the Hungarian forint. In Budapest, Eger and at the thermal resorts cards are accepted almost everywhere, but keep some forints for transport, coffee or souvenirs. Your guide will point out a convenient place to exchange money. Budget for entrance tickets, lunch and shopping - the rest is in the price.

A swimsuit, towel, rubber slippers and a swimming cap - you can usually buy them on site, but at a higher price. Bring a bag for wet clothes and some cash for a locker and drinks. Entrance tickets to the baths are paid separately from the price of the excursion to Hungary.

The price covers transport by comfortable coach, the services of a guide and the excursion programme. On site you pay for entrance tickets - thermal baths, museums, tastings - as well as meals, souvenirs and personal expenses. The exact list is always shown in the Information block on each excursion page.

Yes, the routes are family friendly. Children under 14 travel only accompanied by an adult and need their own international passport; a separate child price applies - see the card of the specific excursion. For a small child pick a shorter day: Nyiregyhaza takes 14 hours, Hajduszoboszlo and Debrecen 16, Budapest and Miskolc 18.

The thermal baths of Hajduszoboszlo and Eger are open all year and are especially pleasant in cold weather. Eger is at its best in the wine season, and Budapest in December, when the Christmas market runs - we go there every Saturday in December. In summer the walking programmes of Debrecen, Nyiregyhaza and Miskolc work well.

Excursions to Hungary - «Pro Karpaty»

Seven routes, one country, no overnight stays. The excursions to Hungary on this page are built simply: the coach leaves Uzhhorod in the morning, the group crosses the border in an organised way - the guide handles the documents and the insurance - and by the evening you are back home. No hotel, no need to take days off.

Prices sit between 2500 and 4500 ₴ per person. The two cheapest trips cost 2500 each: Nyíregyháza and the Hajdúszoboszló spa resort. Debrecen is 3300, Eger 3800, Miskolc 3900, Budapest 4450, and the Christmas market in Budapest 4500. The fixed price already covers transport, guide services and insurance; the exact list of what is included is on the page of each individual trip. Children and concession categories travel at a discount.

Duration is stated honestly on every card, and it is not short. Nyíregyháza is the briefest at 14 hours. Hajdúszoboszló and Debrecen take 16. Eger, Miskolc, Budapest and the Christmas market run 18 hours each. That is a full day with an early departure and a late return, and the figure already allows for the border, which queues longer on peak days. Do not schedule anything important for the following morning.

Where exactly you go. One-day excursions to Hungary fall into two camps: water and cities. Water means Hajdúszoboszló with the thirteen pools of the Hungarospa complex, the thermal pools of Eger, the cave baths of Miskolc-Tapolca, and the thermal lake of Nyíregyháza with the Aquarius water park and a zoo next door. Cities mean Debrecen with its university and the Déri Museum, Eger with a 16th-century fortress and the wine cellars of the Valley of the Beautiful Women (Szépasszony-völgy), and Miskolc with Lillafüred and the St Stephen's Cave.

The excursions to Budapest from Uzhhorod deserve a separate word. There are two of them and they differ in mood. The first is a sightseeing day: Buda Castle, the Fisherman's Bastion, the Parliament above the Danube, the Chain Bridge, and the Széchenyi baths right in the middle of the city. The second runs in season - the Christmas market on Vörösmarty Square, with street food and goulash served in bread. The prices are almost identical, 4450 and 4500 ₴, so the choice is not about money but about what you want to see.

What the price covers and what it does not. It covers transport and guided support from a professional guide. It does not cover entrance tickets to museums and castles - those are paid separately on site, which is worth remembering when you plan your cash or card. A lunch stop is part of the programme, and free time for photos and souvenirs is always allowed for.

Documents are the single most common reason someone is turned away at the coach door. You need a biometric international passport valid for at least three months beyond your return date. A domestic passport or an ID card will not do for crossing the border. A child must hold their own international passport. Check the expiry date a week before the trip, not the night before.

Travelling with children is fine: most routes are family-friendly and suitable for any age, and Nyíregyháza with its zoo and water park, or Hajdúszoboszló with its own water park, are built for families. Bring comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. If you are heading to the baths, swimwear and a towel are your own responsibility.

The number of seats on the coach is limited, and that is not a marketing line: during the thermal bath and Christmas market seasons the dates go early. December weekends for Budapest and warm weekends for Hajdúszoboszló disappear fastest. Book your date in advance rather than two days before departure.

If you have not decided where to start, here is a simple logic. First time and on a budget - Nyíregyháza or Hajdúszoboszló at 2500 ₴ each: the shortest day and the cheapest ticket. First time and in a sightseeing mood - Budapest, because in one day you see the Parliament above the Danube, the Chain Bridge and the Széchenyi baths in the middle of the city. After wine and a fortress - Eger, where the 16th-century castle, the thermal pools and the Valley of the Beautiful Women sit next to each other. After something unlike the rest - Miskolc with its cave baths and St Stephen's Cave.

A word about the season. Excursions to Hungary have no dead months, but the year is filled differently: winter brings the Christmas market and the thermal baths, summer brings Hajdúszoboszló, the Nyíregyháza water park and the Valley of the Beautiful Women in Eger. One-day excursions to Hungary are often better in winter than in summer - hot water in freezing air feels entirely different, and the cities are free of crowds.

A word on where the trip starts. Uzhhorod stands right on the border, which is why Hungary here is a matter of one day rather than a holiday. You do not lose the first day getting to the starting point: a Saturday departure brings you home the same Saturday, leaving Sunday free. That is exactly why excursions to Budapest from Uzhhorod are realistic as an ordinary weekend, not as an event you have to rearrange a whole month around.
