Trips to the Plai ski resort

The young, modern «Plai» ski complex continues to develop rapidly and improve in quality, drawing more and more tourists every year. the Plai resort is set right beside the Kyiv-Chop highway, directly in the village of Plavye (this is the Skole district of Lviv region), at an altitude of over 600 m above sea level. This cosy ski oasis has already been nicknamed the «little Bukovel». By the shape of its slopes (steep at the top, easing into gentle runs at the bottom) the resort resembles the Transcarpathian ski complexes of Podobovets and Pylypets.

The resort was built ten years ago - back then everything was very modest: they laid the first cable car by the renowned Austrian company Doppelmayr, set up an equipment rental point and a small bistro where skis are stored today. The first skiing here took place in the winter of 2006-2007. However, time passed - the Plai resort grew and developed. New restaurants and cafés appeared, along with cable cars, hotels, spa complexes and attractions.

A trip to the Plai ski resort: infrastructure and attractions

The «Plai» ski complex has five pistes of varying difficulty, the longest of which is 1200 m. These are three red runs of intermediate level and two blue runs for beginners. For true extreme enthusiasts, challenging black runs are located at the upper part of the mountain. The elevation changes are modest and reach up to 300 m. Two 4-seat chairlifts, one drag multi-lift and a baby lift (for children) will carry you with ease and comfort to the starting point for skiing or snowboarding. The ski season here runs from December to the end of March. If there is no snow cover, the snow cannons are switched on.

A special children’s run 350 m long has been fitted out for the youngest tourists, along with a playground, a children’s village and children’s bowling.

Hotels, cottages and the private sector are very conveniently located - right at the foot of the mountain. Local restaurants, cafés, panorama kolybas and bistros offer dishes of European, Transcarpathian and Hutsul cuisine. Available to holidaymakers are - equipment rental, quality ski service, a first-aid post, a ski school, parking, conference halls, a snow park, a children’s play centre, billiards and instructor services. For those wishing to relax, there is a SPA centre with sports and leisure pools, various saunas, spa rooms and a gym.

A trip to the Plai ski resort - is not only about skiing, sledging and snowboarding. The complex invites you to try snowtubing - a thrilling descent on inflatable «doughnuts». In addition, here you can go riding on Hutsul horses, visit the local ancient churches and see the waterfalls of Shypit and Kamyanka.

On the grounds of the «Plai» ski resort there is a museum of Boyko and Lemko culture, where unique exhibits from the everyday life of the Boykos and Lemkos are gathered. Also, several years ago a wooden church of St Michael the Archangel was built here, where liturgies are held today.

The winter flow to the ski resorts keeps guesthouses and cottages occupied even on weekdays - one of the reasons why investment in Carpathian property appeals to a growing number of Ukrainian owners.
