This is a journey into a land where time seems to have stood still: ancient wooden churches, the archaic culture of the Boykos and Lemkos, picturesque mountain villages and panoramas that take your breath away.

The route passes through the Uzh National Nature Park - one of the cleanest and least urbanised regions in the country.

Frequently asked questions
In the village of Kostryno we visit the Boyko-style Church of the Intercession, and in Uzhok the Church of St Michael the Archangel, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
These are Hungarian defensive fortifications from the Second World War, hidden in the beech forests near the village of Sil. The visit takes place outdoors, so comfortable shoes are advisable.
The pass, at 883 metres, opens up panoramas of the Carpathians and for centuries linked the peoples on both sides of the mountains. The Uzhok railway, built in Austro-Hungarian times, is considered one of the most scenic stretches in the country, with steep gradients, tunnels and tall viaducts.
On the 1st and 3rd Tuesday and the 3rd Saturday of each month. Departure from Uzhhorod is at 09:00 and the trip lasts about 10 hours; in Uzhok you will taste mineral water from one of the 13 natural springs.
