Tour programme
Departure from Uzhhorod at 07:00, the border crossing - and by around 09:30 we are already in Košice.
Slovakia's second city is built so that you can walk its centre end to end: the pedestrian Hlavná street runs for over a kilometre, lined with Baroque and Neoclassical facades, cafés and a singing fountain.
The centrepiece of the walking tour is St Elisabeth Cathedral, the largest church in the country and the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe; climbing the tower and entering the crypt are optional and paid separately.
Then the Urban Tower, the theatre building, the Miklus Prison, the craftsmen's courtyards and Mill Street.
After the guided walk there is free time for lunch and your own pace: distances in the centre are short, everything is within a ten-minute walk.
The evening city is a reason in itself to take this route with an overnight stay: Hlavná lit up, the terraces, the music of the fountain.
Then the transfer to Poprad, check-in at a 3* hotel with breakfast and a rest before the Tatra day.
Breakfast, then departure for the High Tatras.
The first stop is Štrbské Pleso: a glacial lake at 1,346 m, a wooden lakeside promenade and views of Kriváň and the ski jumps.
The walk around the lake is flat and unhurried, suitable for children and for older members of the group alike; photographs come out well in any weather here, because the mountains do the framing for you.
Next is the transfer to Tatranská Lomnica, a resort town of early twentieth-century wooden villas.
Anyone who wants to see the Tatras from above takes the cable car up to Skalnaté Pleso and higher to Lomnický štít: the cable car is optional and paid separately, tickets sell out quickly, so the group leader will help with the queue.
Everyone else spends the time in the centre: cafés, shops selling Slovak cheeses and herbs, and the TANAP museum.
Towards the evening the group gathers, we cross the border on the way back and return to Uzhhorod at around 19:00.

Frequently asked questions
Travelling abroad requires a foreign passport - biometric, or with a valid visa. A domestic passport or a driving licence is not accepted at the border. Children must have their own foreign passports. Queues at the border are possible and travel time depends on them, so the schedule is approximate.
Season: all year round. The departure date is on request: we set it around group formation, which is why specific days are not published on this page. Send an enquiry and the manager will name the nearest possible dates.
The estimated ticket budget is about UAH 1,500 (to be confirmed). Entrance fees, optional extras, lunches and dinners are not included in the tour price and are paid separately on site - this keeps the price fair for those who skip some of the sights.
