Svaliava - the Mineral Water Capital of Transcarpathia

A glass of pure mineral water
Daily excursion schedule: Transcarpathia and Europe

The Svaliava area - a unique corner of Transcarpathia. It is, without exaggeration, the most famous balneological health resort in Ukraine. It is in this district that several dozen large and small resorts and sanatoriums are located, and you can visit them during our excursion “The Mineral Waters and Bunkers of the Arpad Line”.

The main therapeutic remedy here is the local healing mineral waters. All the wellness methods and procedures are developed on their basis. Interestingly, almost anyone can come here to improve their health. After all, the uniqueness of the Svaliava sour water lies in its versatility.

                                                                 Over 500 years of glory

mineral springsThe Polyana mineral water has been known (this refers to the first written mention) since 1472! The Hungarian king Matthias the Just wrote that it was one of the finest mineral waters in the eastern part of his kingdom. And the Polyana water received its very first gold medal not just anywhere, but in Paris in 1842! Then another three dozen various medals were added: European, Soviet, modern Ukrainian ones…

The local mineral waters of the Svaliava area can be tasted straight from the pump rooms, but for a wider public the mineral water is also extracted here on an industrial scale. Several plants bottle water of various degrees of mineralisation into plastic and glass bottles. The names of these waters and of the trademarks under which they are released have been known for a long time now, and not only within the region but also beyond its borders.

Borjomi” squared?!

The main representatives of the mineral waters of the Svaliava area are “Polyana Kvasova”, “Polyana Kupil” and “Luzhanska”. Accordingly, “Polyana Kvasova - is the mightiest, the strongest! Its total mineralisation is 11 g per litre, “Polyana Kupil” - 9 g per litre, “Luzhanska” (its different varieties exist) - from 3 to 5 g per litre. These figures - are the sum of anions, cations, all the healing “mud” that God mixed into the mineral water. For illustration, “Borjomi” has a mineralisation of 6 g per litre. So “Polyana Kvasova” is “Borjomi” practically multiplied by two.

“5 in 1”, or versatility to the full 100%

mineral springsWhat is the uniqueness of the mineral waters of the Svaliava area? Firstly, in the breadth of the spectrum of their application. Treatment with the mineral waters of the Svaliava group of resorts is suitable for patients with gastritis, gastroduodenitis, erosions, ulcers, high acidity, diseases of the liver and gall bladder, diabetes mellitus, and with intestinal diseases and so on. For them, treatment by drinking the Svaliava waters is predominantly used.
This water is also a helper for people with cardio-neurological conditions: vegetative-vascular dystonia, coronary heart disease, arterial hypertension and so on. In this case, the Svaliava water is used in the form of carbon dioxide mineral baths.

The peak effect of the Svaliava mineral water occurs on the 12th-14th day of consumption. But after 25-30 days its effectiveness declines. That is why mineral water must be drunk for therapeutic purposes in courses of 4-5 weeks. Then a three-month break should be taken. During this time the gastromineral springs-intestinal tract manages to “forget” about the effect of the mineral water, and after this the course can be carried out again - the water will act once more, as if for the first time. Ideally, doctors advise, one should come to Transcarpathia twice a year for prevention - before possible autumn and spring flare-ups.

Drink the Svaliava water and stay healthy!

And the travel company “Pro Karpaty” will make your break interesting during your recovery at the sanatoriums.
