The Krasiya cable car: attractions and breathtaking scenery

Daily excursion schedule: Transcarpathia and Europe

Канатна дорога на Красію The Uzh Valley is renowned for its many tourist landmarks, one of which is Mount Krasiya. Rising 1,036 metres high, this mountain beauty enchants visitors with its stunningly picturesque scenery. The summit is anything but capricious and always warmly welcomes its guests with pleasant weather, a gentle breeze and incredible panoramas of the Carpathians. Today its slopes are home to one of the country’s finest ski resorts of the same name, and the modern Krasiya cable car will carry you up the mountain itself with ease and comfort.

The Krasiya cable car: stunning scenery and modern infrastructure

The ski resort lies in the picturesque village of Vyshka in the Velykyi Bereznyi district, around fifty kilometres from Uzhhorod. The people of Uzhhorod often joke that they woke up in the morning, hopped on a minibus - and were already on their skis! 🙂 This is one of the best-equipped and most popular holiday bases, in both winter and summer. The Krasiya cable car here was built back in the 1980s, and the delivery of a large-scale investment project has modernised the resort and greatly improved its infrastructure. Pleasant bonuses for every visitor include interesting pistes, equipment hire, moderate prices, stunning scenery, fresh air and the proximity of other tourist gems of Transcarpathia.

The season on Krasiya is usually a long one - skiing runs here from December until mid-spring. Everything is thought through in case of a thaw: a snow-making system for the pistes kicks in. The mountain’s slopes are gentle, long, not steep and wide, so both beginners and seasoned experts can ski and snowboard here.

Today the ski resort has 6 lifts. There are three chairlifts (one-, two- and four-seaters), 2 button lifts and one private multi-lift, recommended for holidaymakers with children. The longest piste is 3.5 km long, and the vertical drops range from 95 to 650 metres. In addition, at the local ski school professional instructors teach the basics of skiing to novices - they even get infants on skis! Fancy even more of a thrill? Krasiya has special spots for freeriding and backcountry, which the lifts will also take you to.

The resort complex’s advantageous location

Krasiya has an advantageous location that allows tourists to visit most of Transcarpathia’s popular attractions. Right next to the resort are the karst caves in the village of Knyahynia, the site where the largest in Europe Канатна дорога на Красію meteorite fell in 1866, the Uzhok Pass, the Árpád Linedefensive line. You can also see the pearls of the Uzh Valley - the unique wooden churches of Transcarpathia: the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God in the village of Kostryna and the church of St Michael the Archangel in the village of Uzhok. And of course, the Uzhanskyi National Park, with its beech primeval forests, mineral springs and historical treasures, will certainly not leave you indifferent!

Near Krasiya are also the ancient towns of Uzhhorod and Mukachevo, the legendary Transcarpathian castles - Palanok, Saint Miklós and the palace of Count Schönborn. If you fancy trying some local exotic relaxation - the thermal waters of Berehove and Kosyno, Velyatyno, as well as bathing in the vats in the highland village of Lumshory, await you. In good weather you can take to the skies - by paraglider or hot-air balloon. In addition, a horse ride makes for a superb way to spend your time. Your day will be rounded off with delicious Transcarpathian cuisine and a tasting of fragrant wine.

And you can keep an eye on the weather and the snow cover on Krasiya online - the resort has webcams installed that stream video on the internet. The Krasiya cable car is clearly visible from all 5 cameras!

You will have a great opportunity to ride the cable car up Mount Krasiya during the excursion to the Uzh Valley
