Daily excursion schedule: Transcarpathia and Europe

The Davir and Solovey waterfalls in Lumshory are among those natural sites that make Transcarpathia so pleasant, unique and appealing. For even with such a fascinating history, wonderful architecture and such colourful culture, the greatest treasure and pride of Transcarpathia is nonetheless its astonishing nature. And when it comes to truly unique and precious natural sites, this region can boast like no other. As was mentioned at the beginning, such sites include the waterfalls Davir and Solovey - the most famous of the Lumshory waterfalls.

The Davir Waterfall - a beautiful and elegant Carpathian waterfall

Few people know it, but within the grounds of the famous Transcarpathian village of Lumshory there are five waterfalls. The most interesting and picturesque of these are considered to be Davir and Solovey.

The Davir Waterfall is also known by the name «Partisan» or «Red Partisan». It is believed that the waterfall got this name during the times of the Soviet Union, yet it is still called that today. The locals, however, still remember what it was called before - «Davir». That was the name of this beautiful waterfall, whose grandeur is truly inspiring. Perhaps that is precisely why the Davir Waterfall earned the title of «the most photogenic waterfall».

Notably, the name also has biblical origins: the very word «Davir» has various meanings - from «the holy of holies» to «the inner chamber». What is more, this word of Hebrew origin can denote the part of King Solomon’s temple where the Ark of God was kept.

One way or another, there is as yet no precise information about why the waterfall was given such a name, just as there is no exact height for the waterfall, since it constantly changes along with the weather and climatic conditions. On average, the height of the waterfall is - between 4 and 6 metres.

From different angles the Davir Waterfall looks very different, so it is no wonder that it has become a favourite of photographers, drawn by its elegance, smoothness and powerful stream of freshness.

The Solovey Waterfall in Lumshory

The Solovey Waterfall - is also a very beautiful waterfall, a little smaller than «Davir», but its height, too, sometimes reaches 2-3 metres depending on the weather conditions. «Solovey» has a distinctive, so-called crustacean-like shape and is located very close to the tourist base in Lumshory. Thus, setting off on a walk to the Lumshory waterfalls, the first one you will come across on your way will be precisely the «Solovey».

It is also worth visiting the other, more miniature yet no less interesting and beautiful waterfalls of the Lumshory group. Among the remaining three, one worth attention is, for example, the waterfall that the locals simply call - «Burkachi». Its waters flow down the rocky slope into the Turytsia River, its average height - one and a half to two metres.

The «Perestupen» Waterfall - the fourth in the count, has a different height in different places, and not far from its bank there is an excellent spot to relax and, as an option, for an impromptu picnic.

Yet another waterfall - «Krutylo» - is located as far as possible from the tourist base in Lumshory, in the Kychera tract. Its stream has such force that it has managed to «wash out» a pool below, which is ideal for bathing in, at least for lovers of thrills and those wishing to cool off.
