Daily excursion schedule: Transcarpathia and Europe

Synevyr Synevyr is rightly considered one of the most beautiful and most majestic lakes in the Carpathians and one of the most fascinating landmarks of Transcarpathia, which draws tourists from all around with its natural power, energy and, of course, its unfeigned and sincere beauty.

Lake Synevyr, hidden in the very heart of the Carpathians, wins over more and more human hearts with every passing year. After all, everyone who has been here even once is unable to resist and not fall in love with this place, dreaming of coming back without fail!

Synevyr - a true wonder of nature in Transcarpathia

Lake Synevyr lies at an altitude of more than 900 metres, and its depth ranges from 10 to 12 metres, in places reaching 22 metres, while the lake itself is home to a great many trout, though fishing for them is strictly forbidden. The waters of the lake are replenished by mountain streams, so when the snows begin to melt in the mountains in spring, Synevyr becomes especially full and seems even mightier!

According to scholars, Lake Synevyr was formed during the post-glacial period. Today, around the lake there is a natural National Park, established here back in the early 1990s, whose area amounts to almost five hectares.

As already mentioned above, the lake stands out for its special atmosphere. There really is a particular energy here that is simply impossible not to feel! This is explained both by its location, as the lake lies high in the mountains, and by a dramatic love story, the legend of which lives on here to this day.

Synevyr According to one of the legends, long, long ago a count who owned these lands lived in this region, and he had a daughter named Syn. She was given that name because of her beautiful blue eyes, even bluer than the sky itself. One day the count took his daughter along when he was travelling to his workers, and there she met a young shepherd who was playing the pipe. They fell in love at once and began meeting regularly in the mountains. When Syn’s father found out, he ordered the shepherd to be killed. His men waited for the right moment and dropped a huge boulder onto the young man. When Syn saw this, she embraced the stone and wept for a very, very long time and bitterly. So long that from her tears a whole lake was formed, its water as pure as the girl’s beautiful eyes. Her beloved was named Vyr. That, as the legend has it, is how the lake got its name.

Despite such a sad story, today many people come to Synevyr to celebrate their wedding, and lovers are fond of coming here together. It is believed that whoever is lucky enough to fall in love here will be blessed with a long and lasting love.

As for Syn and Vyr, their wooden images still adorn the shore of the lake. The memory of them lives on today, and will live on for many years to come.
