The thermal waters of Veliatyn

The small Transcarpathian village of Veliatyn in the Khust district is very picturesque and famed as a unique healing place. People come here from every corner of the country to cure their ailments. Carpathian water, rich in minerals, has long been known around the world for its unique properties. The thermal waters of Veliatyn heal wonderfully, bestowing health and longevity and recharging your energy.
The Veliatyn thermal resort came into being relatively recently - more than 25 years ago. In those days, local residents decided to build a hydropathic clinic at their own expense on the outskirts of the village at the foot of Mount Oleksynets. Today water is pumped here from a borehole around 100 metres deep at a temperature of 40-60°C above zero. The water is heated by the earth’s magma and moves through geological faults. Just before it is fed into the bath and pool, the water is cooled a little to a comfortable 36-38 degrees.
So what makes the thermal waters of Veliatyn so special?
It all comes down to the high mineralisation of the water and the elevated content of two elements - bromine and iodine. They are known to help relax the body, improve overall health and well-being and the condition of the skin, and reduce levels of stress, fatigue and anxiety. Today Veliatyn offers three types of personal therapeutic baths: boric, thermal, or bromine-chloride-sodium, all of them with an elevated content of minerals, macro- and micro-elements. Visitors also have access to communal pools of thermal water, which are very popular, especially among tourists.
The thermal waters of Veliatyn are open all year round. Swimming is entirely comfortable and wonderfully relaxing. The first bath is taken for 10 minutes, after which the time is gradually increased to 20 minutes. In the pool you are allowed to stay 5-10 minutes longer. Medics do not recommend bathing for more than two hours and advise alternating between baths and pools. A course of treatment is not limited to a single bathe and consists of between 10 and 15 sessions. That is exactly how much is needed to feel the full effect of the treatment.

The location of Veliatyn is very convenient - the village of Nyzhnie Selyshche is very close by, where you can visit the legendary cheese dairy. Here Carpathian eco-cheeses are made using Swiss technology. Nearby there is also a farm of remarkable noble animals - spotted deer. What is more, it is here, in Veliatyn, that real Carpathian buffalo live! You certainly won’t see anything like it anywhere else!
