Things to do in Uzhhorod: bars, food, spas and kids

Uzhhorod can easily fill a whole day: morning coffee on Korzo and a walk along the Uzh embankments, a daytime trip to Synevyr, Palanok Castle or across the border into Europe, and in the evening Transcarpathian food, a bar, a hookah lounge or the thermal baths just outside town. The city is small, most places are within walking distance, and our excursions start from the centre. The same spots make up the evening part of a corporate event in Transcarpathia when a team is based in Uzhhorod.
What follows is the practical detail: addresses, the prices of our trips, who each place won’t suit, and how to put it all together into one sensible day.
Which excursions from Uzhhorod are worth taking?
Uzhhorod is the westernmost regional capital in Ukraine, and that matters more than it sounds: the mountains and two borders are equally close. So trips from the city come in three kinds - the city on foot, the mountains with a lake, and castles and Europe.
- Walking tour of Uzhhorod - walking tour of Uzhhorod - from UAH 450
- Start: Koriatovycha Square. Duration: 2 hours.
- What sets it apart: the cheapest way to make sense of the city’s layout. Uzhhorod belonged to three different states within a single century, and the Austro-Hungarian quarter, the Czechoslovak “Malyi Halitsyn” and Soviet-era housing stand side by side within 20 minutes’ walk. In two hours you pass through all three layers without getting on any transport.
- Not for: anyone passing through for 3 hours who also wants to get out of town - on foot you won’t get anywhere beyond Uzhhorod.
- Coach tour “Uzhhorod and Surroundings” - coach tour “Uzhhorod and Surroundings” - from UAH 700
- Start: Koriatovycha Square. Duration: 8 hours.
- What sets it apart: it covers what you can’t reach on foot - the outskirts of the city in a single loop, with no changes and no need for a car of your own.
- Not for: travellers who dislike the group format and scheduled stops; the route is not changed to suit a single guest.
- Synevyr excursion - Synevyr excursion - from UAH 1,350
- Start: Koriatovycha Square. Duration: 14 hours. Pick-up in Mukachevo is by arrangement with our manager.
- What sets it apart: coming to Transcarpathia and skipping Synevyr takes rare stubbornness, but to be honest, this is the longest trip on the list, and you will spend most of the day on the road over the mountain pass. The price, from UAH 1,350, is the highest of our one-day trips from the city, and it is that high precisely because of the distance: 14 hours from departure to return.
- Not for: families with children under 4 and anyone who gets carsick on hairpin bends - the winding road takes up most of the day.
If these three are not enough, we run several more trips from the city - ask a manager for the current list for your date.
Can you book a private tour of Uzhhorod?
Yes - and this is where group logic stops working. A group trip has a fixed time, fixed stops and a fixed pace. A private one does not: a private tour of Uzhhorod with your own guide is built around your date, your pace and your group.
The price is not fixed and is calculated on request: it depends on the route, the duration and the number of people, which is why there is no single “from” figure on this page. The quote is sent before the trip and locked in: once confirmed, the amount does not change.
Who really needs this:
- families with small children who need to stop more often than a group schedule allows;
- guests who have been to Uzhhorod before and don’t want to sit through the same basic programme twice;
- business visits and delegations, where time matters more than the ticket price.
For a solo traveller on a tight budget, though, a private tour rarely pays off: a group tour from UAH 450 per person will almost always come out cheaper.
Where to go for a beer in Uzhhorod in the evening?
The city has far more bars than any list can hold, so below are three with different characters rather than three “best” ones. We don’t give opening hours or prices for these places: they change without notice, so check them right before you head out.
- Pub House
- Address: 16 Mynaiska Street
- What sets it apart: this is no longer the historic centre but a residential part of the city, closer to the road out towards Mukachevo - people usually come here on purpose rather than because they happened to walk past.
- Not for: anyone staying at a hotel on Korzo who isn’t up for the journey across town at the end of the evening.
- Ungweiser
- Address: 20 Kapushanska Street
- What sets it apart: the name refers to the historical name of the city on the Uzh, Ungvár, and Kapushanska Street itself leads out in the direction of Slovakia.
- Not for: groups with children - in the evening this is a place for grown-ups.
- Hodynka
- Address: 2 Nezalezhnosti Embankment
- What sets it apart: the only one of the three right on the Uzh embankment - you step out of the door and you are standing above the water instead of wondering where to go next. In summer that settles everything; in winter it works the other way round.
- Not for: anyone hoping for a quiet conversation on a weekend evening: the embankment in the centre is the busiest spot in town.
Where to eat Transcarpathian food in Uzhhorod?
Calling Transcarpathian cuisine “Ukrainian food plus bograch” misses the point. Hungarian, Slovak and Romanian influences meet on one plate: bograch, banosh, tokan, loksha. At the three places below, that profile is signalled by the name itself or by the address.
- Detsa u Notaria
- Address: 98 Karpatskoi Ukrainy Street
- What sets it apart: the best-known address in the city in this category - it is where guests are taken by default.
- Not for: anyone who wants to eat in 15 minutes between errands - this is a place for a long dinner, not a quick lunch.
- Malyi Uzh
- Address: 17 Korzo Street
- What sets it apart: an address on Korzo means Uzhhorod’s central pedestrian axis, so you can walk here from anywhere in the old town without taking transport.
- Not for: anyone who arrived by car and doesn’t want the hassle of parking - you won’t find a place to park on Korzo.
- Uhorskyi Dvir (Hungarian Court)
- Address: 24 Kapitulna Street
- What sets it apart: the Hungarian side of the cuisine is right there in the name, and Kapitulna is the street on Castle Hill, which puts the restaurant in the oldest part of the city.
- Not for: anyone who doesn’t eat meat: the Hungarian menu profile is built around it.
Where to get a decent coffee in Uzhhorod?
Uzhhorod is a coffee town through and through: coffee has been a local habit here for longer than it has been a trend. Three addresses in different parts of the centre:
- Riverside
- Address: 13 Fentsyka Square
- What sets it apart: Fentsyka Square is a transport hub in the centre, so it is handy to drop in before heading out of town rather than make a special trip.
- Not for: anyone looking for a quiet spot to work on a laptop: there is constant foot traffic.
- Udvar coffee
- Address: 7A Chendeia Street
- What sets it apart: *udvar* means “courtyard” in Hungarian, and Chendeia Street lies away from the main tourist flow.
- Not for: anyone with 40 minutes for the whole city - you won’t get there and back in time.
- Na Kavu
- Address: 14 Zhupanatska Street
- What sets it apart: Zhupanatska is the street of the former county (zhupanat) administration in the historic core, a few minutes’ walk from Korzo.
- Not for: a large group - cafés in central Uzhhorod have small rooms.
Where to find a hookah lounge in Uzhhorod?
This is something people in the city look for mostly in the evening and mostly as a group. The three places are spread out across town, and that is the main difference between them.
- Mr.Smoke
- Address: 10 Mukachivska Street
- What sets it apart: the closest of the three to the centre - Mukachivska Street runs into the central part of the city.
- Not for: anyone sensitive to smoke or coming with a child - this is not a family venue.
- Crystal Club
- Address: 63 Shvabska Street
- What sets it apart: the name announces a club format rather than just a lounge.
- Not for: anyone who came to talk: a club format means it is loud.
- Noir Lounge
- Address: 146b Sobranetska Street
- What sets it apart: Sobranetska is a long street running towards the Slovak border, and number 146b means you are already far from the centre: this is not a walk from Korzo.
- Not for: guests without a car or a taxi - the area is not within walking distance of the centre.
Where are the spas and thermal pools in Uzhhorod?
Here it is important to separate two different products. Spa clubs in the city itself mean a pool, saunas and treatments under one roof, in any weather. Thermal baths mean geothermal water, and they are not in Uzhhorod but nearby.
- Sherwood Spa & Sport Club
- Address: 1 Kvitnevyi Lane
- What sets it apart: the name announces a sports section alongside the spa, so there is more here than a sauna.
- Not for: anyone who specifically wants geothermal water - this is a city complex, not a thermal spa.
- White Hills spa
- Address: 7 Myslyvskyi Lane
- What sets it apart: the address is a lane in a residential area, not a shopping centre.
- Not for: a large, noisy group - small spas are not designed for many guests at once.
- SPA Plenty
- Address: 9 Korytnianska Street
- What sets it apart: Korytnianska is on the edge of the city, so this is somewhere you travel to rather than drop into on the way.
- Not for: anyone planning to pop in between errands on the way from the centre - you need to make a separate trip and allow time for travel in both directions.
Thermal water is outside the city. The nearest options are Harmonia in Mynai and Derenivska Kupil / Sribni Termy in Nyzhnie Solotvyno. If you would like the thermal baths with transport arranged and no hunting for parking, we run trips: the spa excursion to Kosyno - from UAH 1,250 and hot-tub bathing in Lumshory - from UAH 900. Kosyno is a pool complex, while Lumshory means wooden tubs of hot water in the mountains; these are two fundamentally different experiences, not two versions of the same one.
Where to go in Uzhhorod with children?
- Kraina Mrii
- Address: 19a Lehotskoho Street
- What sets it apart: the address is within the built-up part of the city, so this is an option for an hour or two after lunch rather than a separate day out.
- Not for: teenagers - play areas of this kind are designed for younger children.
- Polly Land
- Address: 156A Kapushanska Street
- What sets it apart: number 156A is already the far end of Kapushanska, so without a car or a taxi the trip from the centre is a noticeable one.
- Not for: anyone without transport and with a small child - the journey will eat up half the fun.
- Zabava
- Address: Bozdosh Park
- What sets it apart: the only one of the three in a park rather than indoors, so it is a dry-weather option, but one you can combine with a walk.
- Not for: rainy days and the cold months - an outdoor format simply doesn’t work then.
Where to go for a day trip from Uzhhorod?
The city’s main advantage is that you can head out from it in four directions, and three of them lead to completely different kinds of experience.
Castles. The shortest and most popular direction is the tour of the castles of Transcarpathia (Palanok, Mukachevo) - from UAH 1,050. Palanok above Mukachevo is the region’s main fortress; if you would like to understand where you are going first, there is a separate article on Palanok Castle in Mukachevo. Mukachevo is Uzhhorod’s neighbouring town, and a day there is more than enough: Mukachevo: what to see and where to go in 1 day.
Mountains and water. Synevyr - from UAH 1,350, Lumshory - from UAH 900 (see the spa section above). Both mean a full day and a return to the city in the evening.
Europe. Uzhhorod sits on the border with Slovakia, and the Hungarian border is close as well, so from here you can realistically visit a neighbouring country and be back the same day: one-day excursions to Europe from Uzhhorod and Mukachevo. The honest downside: everything depends on the queue at the border checkpoint, and it is the queue, not the distance, that decides how much time you will have in your destination city.
Uzhhorod in 1 day, hour by hour
Treat this as a working framework built around real distances rather than an “ideal plan”. The times below are our guidelines for planning the day, not the venues’ opening hours: check those yourself before you set out.
8:30 - coffee. Riverside on Fentsyka Square or Na Kavu on Zhupanatska Street, depending on where you are staying.
9:30 - the old town. Castle Hill and Kapitulna Street, then down to Korzo. For the sights in detail, see the separate page on Uzhhorod’s landmarks; here they are simply the backdrop you walk past, because this day has a different purpose.
11:00 - the Uzh embankments. Walk along the water in one direction and come back along the opposite bank.
13:00 - lunch. Malyi Uzh on Korzo if you don’t want to stray from the centre; Detsa u Notaria on Karpatskoi Ukrainy Street if you are ready for a long dinner instead of a quick lunch, and for the trip out in that direction.
15:00 - pick one. Either the children (Bozdosh Park and Zabava), or the spa (Sherwood on Kvitnevyi Lane), or the walking tour from UAH 450 if you want someone to explain the city to you.
19:00 - dinner and a bar. Hodynka on Nezalezhnosti Embankment is the shortest walk from the centre; Ungweiser on Kapushanska Street if you would rather be further from the tourist crowds.
If it rains: swap the whole 11:00-15:00 block for a spa or a hookah lounge, and drop the embankment walk altogether. In the rain Uzhhorod is a city of interiors rather than streets.
FAQ

The centre is compact, and places are usually a few minutes’ walk apart.

Three reliable addresses: Kraina Mrii at 19a Lehotskoho Street and Polly Land at 156A Kapushanska Street are indoors and work in any weather; Zabava in Bozdosh Park is an outdoor option for dry weather. Polly Land is far from the centre, so without a car or a taxi it takes a long time to get there.
Where to go for a day trip from Uzhhorod
Four directions with a same-day return: the castles of Transcarpathia with Palanok in Mukachevo - from UAH 1,050, Synevyr - from UAH 1,350, hot-tub bathing in Lumshory - from UAH 900, and the spa in Kosyno - from UAH 1,250. On top of that, there are one-day trips to Europe across the nearby border.
Where to eat Transcarpathian food
In Uzhhorod the go-to addresses are Detsa u Notaria at 98 Karpatskoi Ukrainy Street, Malyi Uzh at 17 Korzo Street and Uhorskyi Dvir at 24 Kapitulna Street. The cuisine of the region carries Hungarian and Slovak influences: bograch, banosh, loksha.
Is Uzhhorod worth a one-day trip?
One day in Uzhhorod is enough to walk the old town, the Uzh embankments and Korzo, have lunch and still make it to a bar. For a trip out of town, though - Synevyr, the castles, the thermal baths - one day is no longer enough: each of these directions takes a full day on its own.
What to do in Uzhhorod when it rains
In the rain the city moves indoors. The options: spa clubs (Sherwood on Kvitnevyi Lane, White Hills on Myslyvskyi Lane, SPA Plenty on Korytnianska Street), the indoor children’s venues Kraina Mrii and Polly Land, cafés in the centre and hookah lounges. The outdoor options, Bozdosh Park and Zabava, are off the table in that weather.
How much an excursion from Uzhhorod costs
Our one-day trips from Uzhhorod start from UAH 450 for the walking tour of the city and from UAH 700 for the “Uzhhorod and Surroundings” coach tour. Out of town: Lumshory - from UAH 900, the castles of Transcarpathia - from UAH 1,050, Kosyno - from UAH 1,250, Synevyr - from UAH 1,350. Private trips are priced on request.

Within the city there are spa clubs with pools and saunas. For trips with transport arranged, we go to Kosyno - from UAH 1,250 - and to Lumshory - from UAH 900.
Can you visit Europe from Uzhhorod in one day?
Yes. Uzhhorod sits on the border with Slovakia, and the Hungarian checkpoint is close as well, so one-day trips to neighbouring countries with an evening return are a standard format. The main risk is not the distance but the queue at the border: that is what decides how much time you will have in the city itself.
Where to go in Uzhhorod as a couple in the evening
The shortest option without any transport: dinner at Malyi Uzh, 17 Korzo Street, then a few minutes’ walk to Nezalezhnosti Embankment and the Hodynka bar right above the water. If you would like somewhere quieter, try Ungweiser at 20 Kapushanska Street, away from the central crowds.
