Lumshory hot tubs: relaxation and healing
It is known that the first hydrotherapy facility appeared in Lumshory back in 1600. Local residents would fill wooden troughs with mineral water and place red-hot stones on the bottom. In this way the water was heated to release all its beneficial minerals. During the rule of the Czechs and Slovaks, a two-storey house for holidaymakers even appeared here. Bathing was most popular among the aristocrats and nobility. Around the same time, at a foundry in the neighbouring village of Turii Remety, two 250-litre baths were cast from iron and installed in Lumshory. Thanks to this, the bathing procedure became considerably simpler. During the First World War these baths disappeared, yet they were later found. The first prototype tub was dug up beside a stream (it is still there and in use in Lumshory), while the other was discovered abroad, in a Vienna museum.
Today local residents invite tourists to fully experience the healing effect of bathing in the Lumshory hot tubs. It all comes down to the water - it is mineral, with a high hydrogen sulphide content, rich in beneficial macro- and micro-elements, and it has a positive effect on the nerves, bones and joints. In Lumshory there are hot tubs of every size, to suit every taste and budget, and you can bathe in them all year round. On average, the tubs hold 5-8 people, and the procedure itself lasts no more than an hour. Everything you need is here: changing rooms, a convenient descent to the river, and rest rooms.

And here is how the process itself unfolds. The tub master lights a fire beneath the tub and adds firewood. As soon as the water has warmed to 36.6 degrees, you can climb into the vessel. You are slowly “boiled” in fragrant Carpathian herbs until the water temperature reaches 40-42 degrees. The moment you feel that your blood has “begun to boil”, run with all your might into the cool mountain stream Turychka, which flows literally right beside your bath. Once you have cooled your body - back into the inferno, into the Lumshory hot tubs! And so on - a few more times.
Such a contrast of temperatures tones every system of the body and is especially noticeable when it is frosty outside. There is no need to fear catching a cold, though: falling ill after the hot tubs is simply impossible. Hydrogen sulphide boosts the metabolism, enhances regenerative processes and blood flow to organs and tissues, increases the cells’ energy supply, and normalises blood pressure and metabolism. In a word, the hot Lumshory hot tubs invigorate, restore and rejuvenate. It has been scientifically proven that after bathing in the tubs both mental and physiological well-being improve, and if you happened to suffer from insomnia - after being “boiled” in mineral water you will sleep like a baby. Bathing in the tubs has virtually no contraindications or age restrictions. That said, such a bath is not recommended for people with heart problems and serious blood-pressure fluctuations.

The village of Lumshory is renowned not only for its unique mineral springs but also for its incredible natural beauty. The mountain stream Turychka rushes along beech and pine forests, where the longest cascade of waterfalls in Ukraine is located. They are not tall, but they are very picturesque. The most photogenic of them are Solovei and Davir. And a day as wonderful as this can only be crowned by a truly delicious tasting of Transcarpathian cuisine in a colourful ethno-tavern.
