The Khust Region: the Valley of Narcissi and the Masterpieces of Wickerwork
It is clear that the greatest fame the Khust region enjoys comes from the legendary Valley of Narcissi - a rare natural phenomenon of astonishing beauty, which a huge number of people come to see year after year. It is one of the main tourist calling cards of Transcarpathia, known practically all over the world and truly worthy of attention.
The second, no less important, highlight of the Khust region - the village of Iza - a genuine centre of wickerwork. The village is famous for its wicker products, which local residents have been weaving for many centuries. Wickerwork has become a lifelong calling for many people in Iza. Its traditions are highly valued and passed down from generation to generation. Here you can find genuine masterpieces created from ordinary willow. They will adorn any interior and make a wonderful souvenir to remember Transcarpathia by!
A trip to the Khust region - is interesting, informative and, on top of that, very pleasant, since it includes a visit to a cheese dairy where delicious Carpathian cheese is made, and a farm of spotted deer - the only one in Ukraine.
The Khust Region: the Selyshche Cheese Dairy
The cheese dairy is located in the village of Nyzhnye Selyshche and was built as part of a project by the Transcarpathian Association for Local Development and the Swiss cooperative «Longo Maï». Here they make various kinds of Carpathian hard cheeses - ecologically clean, meeting international standards and very tasty. You will be able to see this for yourself during a tasting, sampling the no-less-delicious Transcarpathian wine as well.
These cheeses are made using a special Swiss technology and are hugely popular. They are supplied to the finest restaurants, and once you have tasted them even once, you will never be able to forget that flavour!
Not far from the village of Iza there is also a unique place - a farm where genuine spotted deer are bred - beautiful animals, among the most beautiful on the planet, which the Chinese even call flowers because of their tenderness, grace and elegance. These deer are also very valuable because medicines are made from their antlers.
The Khust Region: The spotted deer farm occupies an area of more than half a hundred hectares and is home to around one hundred and thirty animals, and you can meet them by coming at any time of the year. These deer are used to human presence, are not afraid at all and make contact very readily.
The Khust Region: Thermal Springs and Transcarpathian Kolybas
Among everything else, the Khust region can boast of its thermal springs. The water in them is heated by the Earth’s magma and saturated with minerals, which give it healing and health-giving qualities.
In the village of Velyatyno you have the chance to bathe both in a separate bath with mineral water and in a large communal thermal pool. Both give you a comfortable bathing experience, a wonderful sense of well-being and only the most pleasant memories.
Also, as part of this excursion, you will have the chance to enjoy a tasty meal at one of the establishments that serve traditional Transcarpathian cuisine. Such establishments are also called kolybas.
